Cold War Songs
People probably consider me utterly insane for paying $150 for a German import of old Cold War era songs that deal significant with the atomic bomb and pop culture. Uh huh. It is just as wacky and as silly as it sounds, yet it remains somewhat compelling. Well, compelling for my sensibilities which are somewhat....odd. But the truly great boxed set THE ATOMIC PLATTERS - MUSIC FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF HOMELAND SECURITY provides a great timepiece of classic old Cold War era songs (many of which are, admittedly, silly) but they are quite enjoyable if you can get into calypso songs about atomic warfare (no, I am not making that up. There was such a creature) So, I will visit and revisit some of the material on this boxed set now and then. I also recommend that you check out www.atomicplatters.com for a veritable encyclopedia on these lost song treasures. If I had one complaint it would be that the site doesn't always present the seriousness of the threat that the United States faced during the Cold War, but that is not the focus of the site so it gets a pass.
