The Focus of this Blog

The focus of this blog is somewhat skewed. I admit it. Sometimes I don't even think it has a single focus as much as it is a series of different approaches based on my mood. Sometimes I am serious and other times I am somewhat joking. I would guess that the Cold War could be both as well. After all, Dr. Strangelove was a comedy, wasn't it?

In a way, my approach to the subject matter of this blog is eclectic because it is all encompassing. In addition to the historical aspect of the Cold War there was a significant pop cultural influence. After all, would the James Bond films ever been popular had there not been a Cold War? In addition to movies and television, music and other forms of entertainment would be influenced by the Cold War as well. If the Cold War wasn't the influence of the old Spy vs. Spy characters of MAD MAGAZINE then what was? Skimming your eyes to the previous blog entry centering on the GI Joe Russian soldier displays a very minute fragment of toys that were influenced by the Cold War.

Of course, for every James Bond film series there were Matt Helm films (remember those duds?) as well as a host of other misfires. Not all entertainment ventures are all that good and even those influenced by the Cold War turned out to be wrongheaded misfires. We'll look at those as well.

And, of course, while the Cold War is over it still resonates with us to this very day and remains a large part of our current strained relations with Russia.

So, the focus of this blog is all inclusive and promises to cover all aspects of the Cold War while informing and entertaining.
