Those who read my other blogs will know I am a huge fan of the first two seasons of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea as it was a much more serious program with excellent writing and solid storylines. Of course, the program would soon  degenerate into camp nonsense in seasons three and four. Of all the seasons, I enjoy the black and white episodes of season one as they mixed science fiction with, yes, Cold War drama. While there were a number of excellent episodes in the first season that dealt with the Cold War my personal favorite was the excellent second episode of the series THE FEAR MAKERS. This was a brilliant episode that saw a USSR spy (well, they never actually refer to it as the USSR..they refer to it as "an enemy power") sneak a 'fear gas' on board the Seaview which can drive the crew crazy with fear. This would then cause the crew to go insane with fear and wreck the sub.
