Millitary Parade

The Washington Times brings us some news in an article entitled

Russia revives military boast of Soviet days

"Reviving yet another iconic image from Soviet days, Russia's military announced plans to stage a parade of ballistic missiles, tanks and platoons of soldiers this May through the Kremlin's Red Square."

A parade with ballistic missiles? Come on.

Again, what is the purpose of this posturing? Yes, restoring national pride can stimulate a restoration of national identity but it comes with the price of a fallacy of logic. The past here is being remembered in a data mining fashion. That is to say, the "good times" are being remembered...not the deaths of tens of millions under Stalin, not the police state and not the eventual economic collapse. Remembering the USSR in glorious terms neglects the understanding that the Soviet Union was little more than a big automobile with no engine.
