"Russians in Afghanistan" was a throwaway line in Billy Joel's odd song "We Didn't the Fire" and most people probably have no idea what it is a reference to. Of course it is a reference to the Soviets long failed 9 year campaign in Afghanistan. If you want a little bit of information on the subject this is a decent look at the Soviet-Afghanistan War. It is far too brief to provide any in depth information and some of the statements are not even accurate but the footage of Soviet troops is quite rare which makes this an interesting viewing experience:
